Beer Hawks 4, Zombies 1
Wednesday, July 8, 2026 • Walker Ice & Fitness Center
The Zombies couldn’t recover from a difficult opening period as the Beer Hawks scored four times in the first frame on their way to a 4-1 victory Wednesday night at Walker Ice & Fitness Center.
The Beer Hawks broke the scoreless deadlock with 6:23 remaining in the first period when Jon Vierzen (#10) finished a passing play from #17 and Eric Pulaski (#5) for a 1-0 lead. Just 35 seconds later, with 5:48 remaining, #29 doubled the advantage after taking a feed from Dean Griffin (#24) and Eric Pulaski.
Beer Hawks continued to apply pressure late in the period. With 2:38 left, Dean Griffin (#24) scored off another setup from Eric Pulaski, stretching the lead to 3-0 before Coby Sabin (#29) scored an unassisted goal with 1:40 remaining to cap off a four-goal opening period.
The second period settled into a defensive battle, with neither team finding the back of the net. The Zombies generated several quality opportunities, including a power play following an Eric Pulaski tripping penalty, but the Beer Hawks penalty kill held strong.
The Zombies finally broke through in the third period with 4:30 remaining when #84 scored off a pass from Tim Vanoverloop (#4) to spoil the shutout and make the score 4-1. Both teams continued to battle physically down the stretch, with emotions boiling over late as Jon Richmond and Jon Vierzen were each assessed misconduct penalties following an exchange in the closing minutes.
