PHANTOMS PREPARE FOR 58TH SEASON THIS FALL/WITNER
As the regular season of the Summer 2024 comes to a close, the post-season will begin on August 17th for the Phantoms and the rest of the Sunday night league. The Phantoms are polishing the final pieces for the upcoming Fall/Winter 2024 season which will begin in mid-September. The upcoming season will mark the 58th season of the Phantoms, which originally began playing in 2002 at Rivertown Sports in Grandville, MI. To date, the Phantoms have played in a total of 951 games and continue the team's quest closer and closer to that historic 1000 game mark. As the Black and Yellow prepare for the 27th season of hockey on ice, all of
which have occurred at Walker Ice & Fitness, the team is expecting little changes to the team's roster. One player will depart the Phantoms to return to the Lakeside Locomotives and one other former Phantom will return to the lineup full time. There are a couple other pieces still in the works, but the hard work that began in late-spring to secure a fall/winter roster, has yielded new players that would like to the join the longest running team in league if spots allow. BLACK VS. GRAY GAMES: THREE GAMES SET FOR 2024-2025
In addition to our normal men's league games, the Phantoms have had great success and fun during our team's Black vs. Gray games. For the upcoming 2024-2025, three games have been scheduled. The Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Michigan will open the calendar with a game at the Saginaw Spirit's home rink on Saturday,
November 9th. The second event will take place on Saturday, February 8th in Milwaukee at the home of the Milwaukee Admirals. Then on Saturday, March 22nd, Muskegon will once again host a Black vs. Gray game at Trinity Health Arena. Each game will also include a ticket to that evenings game of the home team: Saginaw event vs. the Windsor Spitfires, Milwaukee event vs. the Grand Rapids Griffins, Muskegon event vs. the Green Bay Gamblers. As with everything in today's society, cost for ice has climbed slightly in all venues, but we feel very confident that our games are operated at a cost low as possible compared to other groups that plan similar events. These Black vs. Gray games are scrimmage games that the Phantoms started playing in 2014 and continue with 2-4 games each year. These events are open to all players, of all skill levels, and we love meeting new members and skaters for a fun skate in venues that most rarely get the opportunity to play in. The team believes that while the games fun, it is the social interaction of watching a game after ours and hanging out at the bars after that make these events so special. Jerseys and Socks are provided for these games, we just ask that you return them after. Click the 'Black vs. Gray' icon above to learn more and to sign up. The Saginaw and Milwaukee events are geared around tickets to the Spirit and Admirals, if our group ends up with a lot of friends and family that come watch the Spirit and Admirals game in the evening, player costs to skate and attend the game will be reduced from the posted amount. STEVE CLARK BATTLING CANCER: STRONGER TOGETHER
As the Fall/Winter season continues to roll on, some may have noticed a piece of the Zombies missing from the lineup. This same piece has been absent from the sidelines of the Phantoms this season as well. Steve Clark, a longtime defensemen on the Zombies and father of Kyle and Matt Clark, has been absent from the ice since mid-June. At first what was thought to be a possible infection, turned out to be colon cancer. In early October, Steve had surgery to remove the cancerous part of his colon. During the surgery, it was discovered that some of the cancer spread to his bladder. During the next several months, Steve will undergo chemotherapy to fight the remaining cancer. Steve remains positive and ready to fight this non-ice battle. Jenna Clark (wife of Kyle Clark) and Nicole Clark (wife of Matt Clark) have created a t-shirt campaign to spread awareness of Steve’s condition and rally the troops for Steve’s fight. ‘Stronger Together: His Fight Is Our Fight’ is a battle that we are all in and stand together to give support to Steve and his family.
