Gang Green 4, Zombies 2
Wednesday, June 17, 2026 • Walker Ice & Fitness Center
The final score may not have reflected the way the game was played, but the Zombies turned in one of their strongest offensive performances in months Wednesday night against Gang Green at Walker Ice & Fitness Center.
From the opening faceoff, the Zombies displayed a level of speed, puck movement, and offensive pressure that had been missing for much of the season. The forward group consistently pushed the pace, generated scoring chances, and spent extended stretches attacking in the offensive zone. Unfortunately, a few unfortunate bounces and defensive breakdowns proved costly as Gang Green capitalized on their opportunities in a 4-2 victory.
Gang Green opened the scoring with 10:43 remaining in the first period when #5 converted an unassisted chance for a 1-0 lead. Later in the period, with 2:57 remaining, #13 finished a setup from #5 to put Gang Green ahead 2-0.
The Zombies responded quickly and refused to let the game get away. With 2:02 left in the opening period, Moon Jeon (#27) finished a beautiful passing play from Jason Buechler (#19) and Tim VanOverloop (#4) to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into the intermission.
Gang Green regained momentum in the second period. With 5:38 remaining, #13 scored his second goal of the night off another assist from #5, extending the lead to 3-1. Then, with 2:05 left, Scott Salo redirected a pass from Dennis Salo to make it 4-1.
Despite trailing by three goals, the Zombies continued to push offensively. Their persistence paid off in the third period when Steve Merritt (#5) buried a feed from Nate Tyler (#9) and Tim VanOverloop (#4) with 4:20 remaining, trimming the deficit to 4-2. The Zombies continued pressing for more, but time ultimately ran out before they could complete the comeback.
While the result was disappointing, the offensive effort was a major positive. The Zombies generated speed through the neutral zone, created quality scoring opportunities, and looked more dangerous offensively than they have in several months. A handful of unfortunate bounces in their own end ultimately proved to be the difference on the scoresheet.
Tim VanOverloop led the way offensively with two assists, while Moon Jeon and Steve Merritt each found the back of the net. Jason Buechler and Nate Tyler added assists in the losing effort.
