CHARITY MAR. 14, '15

On Saturday, March 14, 2015, members of the West Michigan Phantoms will played in a Charity Game at Van Andel Arena, home of the Grand Rapids Griffins, to support the Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation.  The Youth Foundation was established in 1995 by the Grand Rapids Griffins (American Hockey League team) to promotes academic excellence, community involvement and healthy lifestyles among the youth of West Michigan, enhancing their lives through hockey and ice-related sports.

This event was spearheaded by the Phantom's Kevin Wootton and 'Relay of Life's' Wagner 'Tang' Tanger' as a way to bring two groups of hockey teams together for a great cause.  Roughly 25 players and 2 goaltenders squared off with hundreds of family members and friends in attendance to all support the foundation .  The game took place between the West Michigan Phantoms (Walker Ice & Fitness Team) and 'Relay for Life'  (Griffs Ice House Team).

Relay for Life skated away with the victory, with the Phantom's Jordan Tompkins netting the lone goal from the yellow shirts.   The game marked the second game ever played by the Phantoms at Van Andel arena. Following the Charity Game, members of both teams hit the bars in Downtown Grand Rapids to hang out and later in the evening all gathered to watch the Griffins take on the Rockford IceHogs at Van Andel.
