The Zombies battled hard but could not overcome a dominant second period by Rad Racing, falling 6-1 in Wednesday Summer League action at Walker Ice & Fitness Center.
Rad Racing struck first with 8:30 remaining in the opening period when #8 finished a play set up by #2 to take a 1-0 lead. The Zombies answered back late in the period as #71 Kyle Severance buried a feed from Jason Buechler (#19) and Tim Vanoverloop (#8) with 3:21 remaining, sending the teams into the first intermission tied at one.
The game shifted dramatically in the second period. With 10:39 remaining, #88 scored off assists from #24 and #21 to restore the Rad Racing advantage. Just over two minutes later, #2 converted a pass from #14 and #8 to make it 3-1. Rad Racing continued its offensive surge at 8:02, as #14 found the back of the net with help from #88, before #5 capped off the four-goal period with 4:58 remaining, assisted by #8 and #14.
The Zombies continued to battle into the final frame, but Rad Racing added one final marker with 4:56 remaining in the third period when #14 scored his second goal of the night off assists from #2 and #25, sealing a 6-1 victory.
Despite the result, the Zombies showed resilience after falling behind early and responded with a first-period equalizer. Jason Buechler and Tim Vanoverloop each collected assists, while #71 Kyle Severance recorded the lone Zombie goal of the evening.
