QUALITY CONTROL APPROVED! DATEMA’S PHANTOMS COMEBACK PASSES INSPECTION!
Meticulous Quality Engineer and 118-Point Defenseman Returns for Season 62
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The measurements have been checked, the specifications have been reviewed and the final inspection is complete.
Dan Datema’s return has officially passed quality control!
The West Michigan Phantoms have signed veteran defenseman Dan Datema for the Fall/Winter 2026–27 season.
After taking last season away from the ice, Datema returns rested, refreshed and ready to resume a Phantoms career that has produced 33 goals, 85 assists and 118 points, along with 136 penalty minutes.
His return places him only two points away from reaching 120 for his Phantoms career.
Before joining the Phantoms, Datema played junior-varsity high school hockey with the Grandville Bulldogs. That experience helped begin a hockey journey that would eventually establish him as a productive puck-moving defenseman for West Michigan.
Away from the rink, Datema works as a quality engineer, where being detailed and thorough is part of the job. Every measurement matters, every process receives careful attention and every potential problem requires a proper solution.
On the ice, the procedure is slightly different.
Inspect the approaching offense.
Identify the developing danger.
Move the puck safely out of the defensive zone.
Datema’s 85 career assists suggest the process has worked quite well!
His career numbers show a defenseman capable of contributing far beyond his own blue line. With 85 assists, Datema has consistently demonstrated the vision to locate teammates, deliver an accurate first pass and help turn defensive stops into offensive opportunities.
Need somebody to analyze an opponent’s attack? Datema will study the details.
Need a precise breakout pass through traffic? He has recorded 85 successful deliveries.
Need an explanation for those 136 penalty minutes? Quality control has classified them as occasional deviations from the approved process!
After a season away, Datema now returns to a Phantoms lineup preparing for Season 62. His comeback restores an experienced defenseman to the roster while adding another familiar and detail-oriented presence to the locker room.
The break is complete.
The blue line has been inspected.
The comeback meets every specification.
And Dan Datema is officially ready to return to production!
WELCOME BACK, DAN DATEMA!
