The West Michigan Phantoms saw their playoff run come to an end Sunday night with a 4-1 loss to Gun Ru at Walker Ice & Fitness Center. Despite the final score, the Phantoms battled hard from start to finish and continued pushing late into the third period.
After a scoreless first period that featured strong defensive play and steady pressure on both ends, Gun Ru broke through in the second with three goals in just over four minutes to take control of the game. The Phantoms stayed composed and kept grinding, refusing to let the game get away from them.
The Phantoms finally cracked the scoreboard midway through the third period when #18 Clay Potochny buried a goal off assists from Kyle Clark and Trevor Zenas, cutting into the deficit and giving the bench some life. The late push showed the team’s resilience and energy even while trailing.
Kyle Clark and Trevor Zenas each recorded assists for the Phantoms, while Zenas, Hunter Tuggle, and Clay Potochny all played with an edge physically throughout the contest.
Gun Ru added a late insurance goal with just 18 seconds remaining to seal the 4-1 final, but the Phantoms continued competing through the final horn in what was a hard-fought playoff matchup.
