DUDE, HE’S BACK! PHANTOMS RE-SIGN TWO-WAY VETERAN SHAWN DeBOER!
No. 17 Returns Healthy, Hungry and Only 11 Points Away from 100
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — He can play forward. He can patrol the blue line. He can bring energy to the locker room—and nobody delivers a more recognizable “Dude!” anywhere in West Michigan hockey.
The West Michigan Phantoms have officially re-signed two-way veteran Shawn DeBoer for the Fall/Winter 2026–27 season!
DeBoer’s playing time was limited by injury last season, but the longtime Phantom still found the back of the net once. That goal increased his career totals to 42 goals, 47 assists and 89 points, accompanied by 91 penalty minutes.
Now returning for another campaign, DeBoer begins the season only 11 points away from the 100-point milestone.
A Grand Rapids native who resides in Jenison, DeBoer developed his game while playing varsity high school hockey for the Hudsonville Eagles. He joined the Phantoms during their early ice-hockey days, continued with the team during the Gong Show inline era and remains with the organization today.
That makes DeBoer more than another name on the roster. He is part of the bridge connecting different generations of Phantoms hockey.
Throughout his career, No. 17 has supplied West Michigan with valuable versatility. He can contribute offensively as a forward, move back to defense when the lineup demands it and provide the kind of adaptability that becomes increasingly important during a long season.

Need someone to bring life to the bench and the locker room? Just wait—you will hear him!
After spending much of last season battling an injury, the new campaign offers DeBoer an opportunity to get healthy, return to regular action and resume his pursuit of 100 career points. His experience, enthusiasm and ability to play at both ends of the ice make him another important piece of the Phantoms’ Season 62 roster.
He has traveled with the team, shared the locker room, endured the bumps and bruises and helped carry the Phantoms tradition forward for years. Now another season awaits—and Shawn DeBoer is coming back for more.
The beard is back.
The “Dude!” is back.
And No. 17 is ready to return to work!
